This image was the motivation for developing this style of ceramic sculpture. It is from a medieval fortress in Calvi, Corsica, an island south of France. The Citadel was filled with arches, cobbled streets built by Romans, dramatic towers and crumbling walls. I photographed this arch at many times of day from different angles and directions.
